HOW TO… Collect students Grades

To create a Google Site to collect grades from all the students you teach in different classrooms and input data orally from your mobile phone, follow these steps:

Step 1: Create a Google Site (recomended your school site)

  1. Go to Google Sites and select Create a new site.
  2. Choose a suitable template or start from scratch.
  3. Customize the design of your site to reflect your class or teaching style (you can add a title, description, images, etc.).

Step 2: Add a Form to Collect Grades (Google Forms)

  1. Open Google Forms and create a new form to record grades.
  • Ask for the student’s name, classroom, subject, and grades.
  • You can add questions with text, multiple-choice, or numerical scales as needed.
  1. Set up the form to notify you when new responses are submitted.
  2. Embed the form into your site:
  • Go to your site in Google Sites.
  • Select Insert and then Forms.
  • Find and select the form you created.
  • Adjust the form’s size to fit well on the page.

Step 3: Add a Spreadsheet to Track Grades

  1. The responses from Google Forms will automatically be stored in a Google Sheets spreadsheet.
  2. You can access this spreadsheet from your Google Drive to view all the grades.

Step 4: Input Data via Voice from Your Mobile Phone

Google has voice dictation features that allow you to input information into forms or documents from your phone:

  1. Enable voice dictation on your phone:
  • On iPhone: Settings > General > Keyboard > Enable “Dictation.”
  • On Android: Settings > System > Languages & input > On-screen keyboard > Gboard > Enable “Voice typing.”
  1. Use voice dictation:
  • When you’re in the form on your mobile, open the text field where you want to input data.
  • Tap the microphone icon on the keyboard.
  • Speak, and your phone will automatically convert your voice into text.

This way, you can dictate students’ grades directly into the form using your voice.

Step 5: Share the Site

  1. Once you have created the site and added the form, you can share it with other teachers or even with students if needed.
  2. Go to the Publish option in Google Sites and choose who can view the site (public or restricted to specific email addresses).

This will give you a platform where you can easily collect grades from all your students and manage the data via voice input from your mobile phone.
